Things you never knew about the sea

Here are some awesome facts about the sea that we’d like to share with you. This is only a handful but there are actually tonnes of cool facts out there.

Did you know that life in the sea started before life on earth even began over 4 billion years ago – that’s a really long time ago!

Think of the biggest dinosaur that ever existed. Are you thinking? Now what if I tell you that there’s a whale larger than that? Yep, that’s right, larger – The blue whale is actually more than 10 times bigger than the scary T-Rex (but thankfully without the teeth!)

The blue whale weighs more than 50 elephants. Its tongue alone weighs as much as one elephant! It’s so big that its heart is the size of a small car. Some of its blood vessels are so wide that you could swim through them…Yucky, but true! Have a look at our Top 10 Biggest creatures in the sea to discover more about them.

Here are our top five facts about our amazing sea:

1. Sharks will grow about 30,000 teeth in their lifetime! Every time a shark loses a tooth, the tooth in the row behind it moves up, like a conveyor belt, to take the lost tooth’s place. That could be quite handy especially if you’ve got a sweet tooth.

2. Jellyfish aren’t fish… they aren’t even related to them! Their actual name is sea jellies and they belong to a group of animals called cnidarians (that’s a silent ‘c’ in case you were wondering).
